Happy Turkey Day!

It's just one day before the great holiday for Giving Thanks and I am thankful for all of my great friends, family, of course ... the two greatest dogs in the world (yes, I am a bit biased) and the sweet kitty.

During this holiday season, keep your pups healthy and happy by limiting their people-food intake. If they are not used to people-food, it can upset their tummies very easily. Even if they ARE used to people food, often times the ultra-rich Thanksgiving dishes will not sit well in the belly. You may not think it's a big deal to give them a piece of turkey or two, but keep in mind, your guests are thinking the same thing. Now they've suddenly had 1 piece of turkey ... from 12 people! Remind your guests to not feed the pups while they're in your home.

The extra people around your house can also lead to pup-stress. Give them a safe and quiet place for them to relax away from the people to keep their stress levels low. Put their dog bed in a bedroom, or let them have access to their crate so they can "escape" if they need some down time.

Even though people are over at your house, make sure you keep the pups on their regular routine with walks and meals. If you typically give them a 30 minute walk at lunchtime, but you're busy trying to speed up the cook time of the turkey, allow one of the kids to take them for their regular walk instead.

After the meal has been completed, make sure everything has been put away, out of reach - especially if you have a counter-surfer like Tyler! Three years ago, we were all enjoying some football in the living room and suddenly, it was very quiet in the other room. The dogs are never quiet unless they are sleeping. I went to investigate, and both dogs were devouring the turkey on the kitchen floor. I know Tyler was the instigator (since he's tall enough to get on the counter), pulled the turkey onto the floor ... then Maggie got in on the delicious meal too. Needless to say, we had two pups with upset tummies the rest of the night! Lesson learned ... push the food to the back of the counter so Tyler can't reach!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Santa Claus is coming to town ...

Santa came to The ATL early this year, so we took our annual trek to Doguroo Midtown to support the Atlanta Humane Society's Pups with Santa fundraiser. This is the second year that Doguroo has hosted the AHS's Pups with Santa event, and they hit the ball out of the park again!

They offer online reservations (but book early, because they do fill up quickly) as well as allow walkins on a first come, first serve basis. Their store in Midtown on Northside Ave. is a great store with awesome people. Everyone that works there just LOVES animals, you can feel it the second you walk in and they greet the dogs before they greet the people!

Doguroo is collecting a (minimum) $10 sitting fee, 100% of the sitting fee is donated to the AHS, then 10% of in-store sales, as well as photo sales also goes to the AHS.

I told two of my neigbhors about the event, and they came along as walk-ins. They took all of us in at the same time, and took all of our photos. Pumpkin rolled her eyes like a typical teenager, Maggie and Tyler sneaked in a quick kiss under the mistletoe. They all told Santa what they wanted for Christmas, and now I'm wondering how I'm going to fit a pony into the house.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Doggie Dining on the Patio ...

The weather is FINALLY getting warm, the sun is out, the rain is staying away, you want to go out for dinner, but you've been at work all day and the pup has been home alone all day? No problem! Pick up the pup and head down to Nancy G's Cafe in Sandy Springs for a fantastic dinner for you, and doggie dining on the patio for your dog!!

Nancy G's specializes in fresh contemporary Southern cuisine and every single item on the menu is plate-licking good! Saturday afternoon when I went in with my neighbor and our dogs, I had the Fish Tacos. They were delicious! The blackened mahi-mahi was perfect and the hint of avocado and fresh tomato/onion salsa with cilantro was like a flavor explosion in my mouth!

Last time I went in for dinner, I had the grilled portabella sandwich with the fresh goat cheese. Mmmmm, can we say "YUM!" The dessert look delectable, but I've been good, and have not indulged in dessert since I've always been so full after my entree!

So, now you know what you're going to eat ... what about your pup?? They even have a doggie menu where you can buy carrots or Green Dog Cookie Co. organic cookies!! Stop on by, tell them Amanda sent you ... and bring your pup!!!
